Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Wisdom teeth—also known as third molars—are the last set of teeth to emerge, typically between the ages of 17 and 25. While some people have no issues with their wisdom teeth, many experience problems that require extraction to protect their overall dental health.

Why Are Wisdom Teeth Removed?

Wisdom teeth often don’t have enough room to grow properly, which can lead to:

  • Impaction: (trapped beneath the gums or jawbone)
  • Crowding: or shifting of nearby teeth
  • Infection or gum inflammation
  • Tooth decay in partially erupted teeth
  • Cysts or damage to surrounding teeth and bone

Removing problematic wisdom teeth early can prevent pain, misalignment, and more serious complications in the future.

Common Signs You May Need Wisdom Teeth Removal

  • Jaw pain or stiffness
  • Swollen or bleeding gums at the back of your mouth
  • Bad breath or unpleasant taste
  • Difficulty opening your mouth
  • Headaches or earaches

Even if you’re not experiencing symptoms, your dentist may recommend removal if X-rays show potential future issues.

What to Expect During the Procedure

Wisdom tooth extraction is a common and safe procedure, typically performed by a dentist or oral surgeon. Here’s what the process looks like:

  • Consultation & X-rays : - We'll assess the position of your wisdom teeth and plan the best approach.
  • Anesthesia - – Local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia will be used for a comfortable experience.
  • Extraction - The dentist or surgeon will remove the teeth, sometimes in sections if they're impacted.
  • Stitches - May be placed to aid healing (usually dissolve on their own).

Recovery & Aftercare

  • Rest for 24–48 hours after the procedure
  • Use cold compresses to reduce swelling
  • Eat soft foods and avoid straws for a few days
  • Follow all instructions for pain management and oral hygiene

Most patients recover fully within a week. We’ll provide detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth healing process.

Benefits of Wisdom Tooth Extraction

  • Prevents overcrowding and damage to nearby teeth
  • Reduces risk of infection, inflammation, and decay
  • Helps maintain a healthy bite and jaw alignment
  • Can alleviate jaw pain and pressure
