Root Canal Therapy (Endodontics)
Root canal therapy is a procedure to save a severely infected or damaged tooth instead of removing it.
Why It’s Needed:
Inside your tooth is soft tissue called pulp. If it becomes infected due to deep decay, a crack, or trauma, it can cause intense pain and lead to tooth loss if untreated.
Procedure Steps:
- The dentist removes the infected pulp.
- The inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected.
- The space is filled and sealed.
- A crown may be added for protection.
Signs You Might Need a Root Canal:
- Severe pain when chewing or biting
- Long-lasting sensitivity to heat or cold
- Swollen or tender gums
- A pimple on the gums (abscess)
- Deep decay or darkened gums
